  • Reno Works is hosting a Dress for Success event that will supply clothes to homeless individuals for job interviews—helping them prepare for better employment opportunities.  2NEWS
  • Red Cross of Northern Nevada advised residents to prepare for flooding—revised FEMA flood maps indicate expanded risk areas in Washoe County. Residents are encouraged to review emergency plans and follow local flood warnings.  2NEWS
  • NV Capital Corporation closed financing for a $3M renovation of the historic Lucky Motel in Reno with FBGM Investments LLC securing a $2,050,000 first loan and a $1,012,000 second loan to repair structural issues and update its look—work will be finished by mid-October.  KRNV
  • Washoe County community preparedness days will be held this Saturday at the McKinley Arts Center from 10 a.m. to noon.  2NEWS
  • REMSA will host a free car seat inspection event at UNR Early Head Start at 3700 Grant Drive from 9 a.m. to noon on October 18th in Reno — the check will cover installation errors and recalled models to help reduce death risks by up to 71%.  2NEWS

  • Truckee Meadows Fire—Rescue stopped the forward spread of a wildfire that reached one to two acres in the hills east of Sun Valley on Tuesday.  2NEWS

  • City officials approved permits for a new Costco in South Reno that will cover 161,553 square feet and include a gas station and car wash — construction is expected in the next few years though no opening date has been set.  KRNV

  • EmployNV is hosting the first of three rural career services events today to connect local job seekers with employers.  2NEWS
  • Gold now costs over $4,000 an ounce, and this milestone has many Reno buyers watching the market closely amid a weak dollar and economic worry—local dealers say coin values have changed a lot since last year.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Nevada, Reno will unveil its new Main Station Farm Science Center this week at a private event on Main Station Farm—boosting hands-on ag education and support for Nevada's meat industry by previewing upgraded training opportunities at the farm feedlot and Wolf Pack Meats facility.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Applications are now open for the Oldre Adults Home Modification program that helps Reno seniors make needed home upgrades — officials plan to review applications soon.  2NEWS
  • Reno seniors aged 62 and older with incomes at or below 80 percent of the area median can apply for free home safety upgrades through a program funded by a federal grant — the project aims to reduce fall risks and support independent living using certified home assessments. The City of Reno partners with Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada and will process applications until the available funds run out.  2NEWS
