About this event

pineforest.firewise@gmail.com Phone Number: 5306062055 Requested Date: 2026-10-21 Number of Guests: 200 Start Time: 6:00 End Time: 7:00 Preferred Day(s) of the Week: Wednesday Event Description: The Wildfire-Ready non-profit has a $2000 advertising grant to host a wildfire prepared event. We are looking for a partner venue that can host this type of community engagement and conversation. We will promote the location in our advertising as well as event sponsors like Tahoe Truckee Community Foudnation

Standing Dead: Overstocked. Overgrown. Overdue., followed by a candid conversation with wildfire, forestry, prescribed fire, and community experts.

Standing Dead takes viewers into communities changed forever by catastrophic wildfire. Through the experiences of residents, firefighters, foresters, and fire scientists, the film explores not only what is lost when a major wildfire strikes, but the conditions that can allow fires to become so destructive.

But this evening isn't just about what happens after a wildfire.

It's about what we can do before one happens here.

Following the film, our expert panel will bring the conversation home to Truckee and the surrounding forests:

Could what happened to these communities happen here? What role do dense forests and accumulated fuels play in extreme wildfire? What does effective fuel reduction actually look like? Why isn't thinning alone always enough? What is prescribed-or "good"-fire, and why are land managers increasingly using it? What can we realistically do around Truckee to reduce the potential for catastrophic loss?

A particular focus of the discussion will be organized burning as a forest treatment-why prescribed fire is used, how it reduces surface fuels, how it complements thinning and other treatments, and what residents should understand when they see smoke from planned burns around our community.

This won't be a lecture or a scare campaign. It will be an opportunity for a candid, informed conversation about the choices we face as a community living in a fire-adapted landscape.
