  • Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission provided Christmas kindness on Wednesday by delivering gifts and support to low-income neighbors in a Section 8 complex, as 21 volunteers helped brighten a difficult winter. The initiative aimed to ease financial challenges for local families facing tough decisions.  KRNV
  • 2 News Nevada is partnering with the Salvation Army this week to collect donations for the Red Kettle Drive (a community effort to support neighbors).  2NEWS
  • On Saturday, Reno firefighters will deliver holiday food baskets to families chosen by local agencies, honoring retired firefighter Jana Maas. The annual Saibini tradition began in 1932 when firefighters were tasked with providing Christmas dinners to those in need (an enduring community legacy).  2NEWS

  • At the start of the 2026-2027 school year, Washoe County kindergarten students will begin classes concurrently with grades 1-5 to streamline school schedules and align learning opportunities for all.  2NEWS

  • Nevada Rural Housing launched a new down payment program on Dec. 17 to help essential workers buy homes statewide — the effort aims to make homeownership more attainable for those who serve the community.  2NEWS

  • Emergency crews rushed a family of five to a Sparks hospital after a carbon monoxide leak was discovered in their home on Dec. 17. The family is now receiving medical care.  2NEWS
