COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada will distribute over 2,000 Holiday Spirit Food Baskets with ingredients for a Christmas breakfast to families facing food insecurity. Families can pick up their meal kits at participating St. Vincent’s Food Pantry sites—including Moana, Downtown Reno, and Sun Valley—from today until December 19.  2NEWS
  • Kids Cafe is preparing to offer meals to children during the upcoming winter break — a program to support local families when school is out.  2NEWS
  • The Food Bank of Northern Nevada raised 1.1 million meals last Friday during Share Your Christmas and now needs volunteers to sort donations. The sorted contributions will help serve over 160,000 people monthly as local partner agencies prepare for the new year.  2NEWS
  • The Fuhrman family in Spanish Springs hosts Twinkling Trails—a free display featuring over 400,000 lights across 10 acres and a historic fire wagon for photos. The walk takes place Saturdays from 6–9 p.m. from the last Saturday in November through Dec. 27, weather permitting.  2NEWS

  • The new North Valleys ER will open in January — hospital officials say it will offer improved emergency services for local residents.  2NEWS

  • A long-stalled riverfront development in downtown Reno is set to move forward after CAI Investments repurchased the Island Avenue property for $14 million. The mixed-use project will feature an upscale hotel, office space, restaurants + 60 residential units with construction planned within six months.  KRNV
