Good morning, Reno. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 20th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Helix Electric will host its second annual Thanksgiving event at 4th Street Brewery and Coffee Co. on Tuesday, November 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. — guests can access holiday treats, winter supplies and services from local community partners to support Reno’s unsheltered residents.  2NEWS
  • Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission surprised local families with free groceries as volunteers went door-to-door in low-income neighborhoods to help those in need. The effort provided essential support to families facing hardships.  2NEWS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An elderly man and woman were injured when a bear attacked their Stateline home on Wednesday morning — the animal entered a garage off Kingsbury Grade in search of food — and officials said the man received a hand scratch while the woman was also hurt — urging residents to secure trash and remove food attractants.  2NEWS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Uline is hosting a hiring event today at its new Reno warehouse (6125 Echo Ave.) to fill positions including warehouse associates with hourly rates from $26 to $34 and distribution analysts with salaries up to $100,000; the event runs from 4-6:30 p.m. and offers benefits such as health care and a 401(k) match, with walk-ins welcome although registration is encouraged.  Reno Gazette Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new Joint Economic Committee Minority report shows Nevadans have been paying $941 more for the same items so far this year than last while the national increase is $706. • Holiday travelers face busy crowds at Reno-Tahoe International Airport as flight schedules normalize and November 25, 26 and 30 are expected to see 14,000 to 15,000 passengers each day. Officials advise arriving two hours early, checking parking availability and planning for overflow as nearby construction under the MoreRNO program may affect traffic—additionally, therapy dogs and a new art exhibit offer extra travel relief in the terminal.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Police urge drivers to exercise extra caution today as icy conditions—caused by dropped overnight temperatures—make bridges and overpasses across Northern Nevada slippery. They advise slowing down and leaving extra stopping distance to navigate the hazardous roads.  2NEWS

Each permit allows cutting one pinyon pine (available in select mountains east of Fallon and near Hawthorne) or one juniper tree, and no more than ten permits may be purchased per person.  2NEWS
  • Drivers on USA Parkway will face intermittent closures starting at 7 p.m. Friday for repaving work near Denmark and Sydney Drive intersections—one lane will remain open in each direction until construction ends Monday at 4 a.m. NDOT noted that traffic has grown from 6,500 to 24,000 vehicles daily.  2NEWS
