COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers from Reno and Sparks are planning a Thanksgiving in a Bag project to help local families who are struggling due to a government shutdown and SNAP benefit cuts. The kits cost about $10 each, include turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and green beans, and will be assembled this weekend and delivered to 50—60 Karma Box sites.  KUNR
  • The Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle campaign on November 13 — all donations go toward supporting local programs in our community.  2NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Food Bank of Northern Nevada said our local economy was hurt after a government shutdown left federal employees without pay on November 13 and expects more ripple effects as local services adjust. The bank warned that further disruptions could impact economic recovery in the coming weeks.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • William N. Pennington Smart Start Preschool will open on January 5 next year—local families can enroll their children in early education programs. The new preschool is set to meet the community's need for early learning opportunities.  2NEWS
  • On November 13th, Valley Wood Park unveiled new educational signs that highlight its gardens and pollinator habitats—designed to help visitors learn about the park's natural features.  2NEWS
