- ➤ The Holiday Lights Festival will light up Downtown Reno from Nov. 28 to Nov. 29 and Dec. 5 to Dec. 6 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors will enjoy free winter experiences along Virginia Street with tree lighting ceremonies at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, train rides, photos with Santa, Christmas movies and live entertainment. - ➤ Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue, IAFF Local 2487, and the Truckee Meadows Firefighter Foundation are hosting their first annual toy drive from November 3 through December 15 to help children at Renown Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Donated toys must be new and in their original packaging, with plush toys not accepted, and can be dropped off at any TMFR station or the Fire District headquarters (3663 Barron Way) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. KRNV
- ➤ The Nevada Humane Society is offering free pet food at its Reno location at 2825 Longley Ln B amid the ongoing government shutdown as more pet owners seek help, with the pantry accepting donations Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. + the organization noted it provided 200,000 pounds of pet food last year. - ➤ Reno-Sparks residents missed their SNAP food payments on November 1 because the federal government shutdown halted benefits, and local organizations like the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, The Salvation Army, and Catholic Charities have expanded programs to serve those in need. The Food Bank offers groceries through partner pantries & Mobile Harvest sites, The Salvation Army runs a food pantry and bread line, and Catholic Charities is providing weekend meals for families. - ➤ The Nugget Casino Resort has joined Drive Kind Nevada — a campaign that encourages safer driving through simple acts of kindness on the road. The initiative aims to reduce aggression and improve safety as it spreads its message via billboards and social media. 2NEWS
- ➤ The Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation will host its second annual Gold Ribbon Gala on November 15 at Silver Legacy Resort Casino Grand Exposition Hall in Reno to honor Alyssa Carano Grant and raise funds for local children and families affected by cancer. Hosted by Kristin Remington, the event will feature a stand up pledge, a silent auction with over 100 items & live music by Whitney Myer with AMA5 and Juliette Leong, and a specialty dinner prepared by Lisa & Gregg Carano. 2NEWS

- ➤ Thirty-five Nevada National Guardsmen will help distribute food supplies to aid residents as part of a state-led effort. The project is funded by a payment (of $200,000 approved last week) and will soon begin at local distribution centers. 2NEWS
- ➤ The Walker River Paiute Tribe had its $20 million EPA grant for climate resilience projects cut by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, halting plans to improve water systems and strengthen home safety on the reservation. The tribe had spent only a small part of the funds before the termination and now faces legal challenges to restore the grant. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ Northbound Wedge Parkway will close today from Mt. Rose Highway to Whites Creek Lane for road work—drivers must follow detours via Arrowcreek Parkway, Thomas Creek Road, and South Virginia Street as side street access may be limited for one hour during paving; the closure is expected to last about two weeks while southbound lanes remain open. The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County directs motorists to use alternate routes as necessary. 2NEWS
