Good morning, Reno. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 4th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Due to delays in SNAP payments, Catholic Charities offers free hot dinners every weekend from Friday to Sunday and runs a baby formula drive for parents with young children, serving families from across the region. Local Food Group supports the effort by matching donations and hosting a fundraiser at its restaurants—any community member or local business can help those in need.  2NEWS
  • Northwestern Nevada will host a busy slate of events this week including curling in South Lake Tahoe, basketball games at Lawlor Events Center, high school football playoffs, and local concerts—while forecasts predict rain midweek and road projects continue to cause delays.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Veterans will receive a free pancake breakfast with coffee and juice at Sun Valley Neighborhood Center on November 8 at 9 a.m.—the event hosted by the Sun Valley General Improvement District and Washoe County Human Services will also provide veteran and military agency resources.  2NEWS
  • Chef Mark Estee is teaming up with local businesses to launch a campaign called One Table, One Nevada — a drive to help the Food Bank of Northern Nevada support families facing food insecurity. Participating restaurants will display QR codes to collect donations — a measure aimed at easing a shortfall as nearly 48,000 Reno-area residents risk missing food benefits during the upcoming holiday season.  2NEWS
  • Tom Dolan, a well-known Reno community icon and founder of Dolan Auto Group, is being honored with his floragraph on the One Legacy Donate Life Rose Parade float in Pasadena this January. Family and friends gathered today at Dolan Lexus to complete his tribute — a symbol of his organ donation legacy — as his sons said his memory continues to inspire the local community.  KRNV
  • Residents at a Sparks rental complex at 2nd St. and Victorian Ave. reported unsafe conditions such as broken showers, faulty electric outlets, and pest infestations — leaving them trapped by high financial barriers — while repairs remain unaddressed. Inspectors noted issues like exposed wires and falling ceiling tiles, and the landlord has not provided aid.  KRNV

  • The Nevada Treasury said open enrollment for the prepaid tuition program has begun—letting families choose from different payment plans to lock in in-state tuition until April 15. The program has helped over 9,400 students attend more than 325 colleges and now offers a referral deal that gives both referrers and new account holders a $100 gift card once the requirements are met.  2NEWS

  • Drivers in Sparks will see lane reductions to one lane each way from Springland Drive to Baring Blvd starting mid November as crews begin the next phase of an $86 million widening project plus install new retaining walls and relocate utilities.
