COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Inter-Tribal Council opened a new shelter that gives women and children a safe home in Washoe County for up to 90 days. The facility offers housing, job training, mental health care, and other services—built from a converted office by Reno Engineering Company.  2NEWS
  • The Domestic Violence Resource Center in Reno will break ground on November 4 for a new 40,000—square-foot facility on Vassar Street that will eventually quadruple its shelter capacity. It will open in early 2027 to bring counseling, legal help, and financial guidance together under one roof while meeting growing demand in Washoe County.  KRNV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starsound will open its new headquarters and music hall by next spring in Reno's brewery district—this relocation marks the company's effort to expand its presence locally.  2NEWS
  • Construction is underway at the former Boston Market spot at Firecreek Crossing in Reno as Starbucks — a major coffee chain — begins building a new store at 4801 Kietzke Lane. Permits were issued earlier this year and project updates will be provided as the commercial remodel continues.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • On October 20, President Brian Sandoval delivered a State of the University Address at UNR and updated stakeholders on the institution’s current status—he highlighted key issues and next steps for improvement.  2NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new workforce program along the Truckee River in Reno has started to restore native trees and help residents learn green job skills. Launched Monday with help from the city and RISE, the program will add shade along a two-mile stretch from Lake Street to Galletti Way—improving public spaces while creating sustainable work opportunities.  2NEWS
  • Trail closures remain around Marlette Lake and Spooner Lake State Park as work on the Marlette Lake Dam rehabilitation project continues until October 2026—officials say public access is closed and law enforcement will enforce the safety measures.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The southbound U.S. 395 off-ramp to Parr Boulevard reopened over the weekend as construction crews continue improving the highway — drivers should expect overnight lane reductions until paving and bridge deck widening is complete — NDOT advised.  2NEWS

  • A Reno lawn care specialist warns that delaying yard cleaning may lead to damage—residents are urged to start cleaning their yards soon to avoid problems.  2NEWS
