- ➤ The city said any future south Reno Costco must address traffic and access issues before approval, as developers must show a plan for new road improvements. A mistaken permit filing (Oct. 6) led to over 100 community emails and will require a proper pre-planning meeting before the project can advance. Reno Gazette Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Virginia City kicks off Hauntober today with the Red Run 7: The Resurrection, where up to 3,000 participants will run from zombies and solve puzzles as they explore the town's historic sites—marking the event's return after a seven-year break. The month-long celebration also features a haunted house at Mackay Mansion on the last weekend of October to help restore the building. 2NEWS
- ➤ The City of Reno is partnering with Desert Beats Collective and High Sierra Entertainment to host a free Día de los Muertos celebration at Locomotion Plaza on November 1 from noon to 7 p.m. The event will include live mariachi music, ballet folklórico, children’s craft activities, artisan vendors and local food, as well as a community altar for honoring loved ones. 2NEWS

- ➤ A new report found that rising heat made droughts worse across the Mountain West and Southwest while lengthening dry spells by up to four months—shrinking rivers, drying farmland, and heightening wildfire risks.
