- ➤ Reno seniors are invited to a free Halloween dance event — scheduled for Oct. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. — at McKinley Arts Center Auditorium, hosted by Seniors EngAGED with costumes encouraged and light refreshments provided. 2NEWS

- ➤ Reno’s Von Bismarck, one of the city’s few German restaurants, will close on Oct. 26 as owner T. Duncan Mitchell said the decision was best for his family—he plans to return to the bar industry with some current staff. He added that a new restaurant will eventually open at 805 S Wells Ave and encouraged the community to continue supporting local eateries. KRNV
- ➤ City officials said on October 8 that Costco has not submitted any permit applications yet for its proposed location in south Reno due to an error in an earlier online report— the retailer is now requesting a meeting to present conceptual plans that will help finalize its design. 2NEWS

- ➤ Santa has asked local youth groups to join as North Pole Elves on the V&T Polar Express train ride this season. Groups aged 8–18 will work on select nights in November and December — earning a $100 honorarium per night with a commitment of at least five evenings and two adult chaperones — to bring holiday magic to families in Northern Nevada. 2NEWS

- ➤ Many Gen Z residents in Reno have been forced to live with parents as rising rent and living costs make moving out unaffordable—Kai Stevens and Rue Jimenez Acosta explained that even paying a basic rent of $700 left little for other expenses like insurance and groceries. KUNR

- ➤ The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection recommended lifting harmful algal bloom advisories for Eagle Valley Reservoir and Washoe Lake on Oct 8 + no harmful algae was seen in either water. - ➤ Thousands of Nevadans are impacted by the ongoing government shutdown that began Oct. 1 as about 22,100 federal workers face delayed paychecks and furloughs—most working in Clark and Washoe counties—with affected employees able to apply for unemployment benefits. - ➤ The Reno City Council approved extra money on October 8 for the Geiger Grade Horse Fencing Project and allocated $280,000 from the Nevada Department of Transportation to install and improve fences along the mountain road connecting Reno to Virginia City. The project is set to reduce conflicts between wild horses, vehicles, and homes—helping keep the animals safe and guiding them to water sources in protected areas. 2NEWS
