- ➤ Reno Public Market will host Lip Sync Legends: A Behavioral Health Tribute on Friday, Oct. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m.—local celebrities including 2 News Nevada anchor Ryan Canaday will perform to raise money for Vitality Unlimited, a nonprofit that offers behavioral health and recovery programs. 2NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada received a $10,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation to support disaster relief and preparedness — it will supply emergency items, train volunteers, and maintain emergency vehicles to help families when disasters occur. KRNV

- ➤ Reno firefighters rescued two teens from a flood control tower at the lower Peavine retention basin on Sept. 27 by placing ground ladders to bring them safely down—firefighters urged parents to discuss hazards near such structures with their children. KRNV

- ➤ Marcolino's Italia is moving from downtown Reno to Midtown Reno in an iconic building on South Wells Avenue and Vesta Street that once housed Rapscallion—contractors are renovating the space to add three private dining rooms, a parking lot and two kitchens, with the grand opening set for December. 2NEWS
- ➤ Local businesses are urged to take extra precautions as experts warn that wildfires, floods and power outages may threaten operations all year—Senior Meteorologist Sarah Dillingham advised installing Class A roofs and retrofitting property features to protect buildings amid severe drought conditions. - ➤ On September 26, the U.S. Department of Justice sent a letter questioning UNR’s UndocuPack program that helps undocumented students with financial aid, referrals, and academic support—UNR is reviewing the letter as the case is referred to the Department of Education for investigation. - ➤ The Nevada System of Higher Education revised its Credit for Prior Learning policy to let students earn college credit for real-world experience. The Board of Regents approved changes that allow credit from military service — industry certifications — professional licensure and the measure is expected to boost degree completion statewide. KRNV

- ➤ Washoe County's RTC began demolishing the nearly century-old south bridge on Arlington Ave. yesterday as part of an Arlington Bridges project that aims to deliver modern crossings by late summer. The demolition closed the Arlington Ave./Island Ave. intersection — vehicles detoured via Sierra St., Court St. to Rainbow St. and Eloise Ave. as flaggers managed two-way traffic. KRNV
- ➤ The USDA ended its long-running hunger report that local groups like Catholic Charities and the Food Bank used to guide support for residents facing food insecurity. These organizations now are seeking alternative data sources—hoping to replace the lost report—to plan future aid efforts. KRNV
- ➤ Crews at the Arlington Avenue Bridges project are demolishing the south bridge in Wingfield Park to boost the Truckee River's flood capacity and start building a replacement before winter arrives — Arlington Avenue is closed between W 1st and Island Avenue and Wingfield Park will reopen next summer. 2NEWS

- ➤ Saint Mary’s Health Network in Reno was awarded $510 million by a Washoe County jury for fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic—claims that cost the hospital over $200 million.
