- ➤ Starbucks will cut nearly 900 non-retail jobs and close about 1% of its North American coffee houses—around 150 to 200 locations—as part of its Back to Starbucks strategy to boost in-store service, CEO Brian Niccol announced on Sept. 25. In Reno, three stores closed in the past year while new ones opened as the company upgrades coffeehouse features, and affected employees will be notified Friday with generous support packages offered. - ➤ In Lovelock, Uprise Fiber owner Stephen Kromer pleaded not guilty to 31 felony theft charges after allegedly diverting millions of dollars from a $9.125 million fiber optic project; he was placed under house arrest on May 19 and his trial will begin in June 2027—federal investigators and the USDA have taken further action. 2NEWS

- ➤ Nearly 100 volunteers gathered at Lam Watah Trailhead in Stateline over the weekend to restore Rabe Meadow and Burke Creek by removing 500 invasive plants, planting 1,000 native seedlings, reseeding 3,000 square feet, and building three beaver dam analogs—efforts organized by Keep Tahoe Blue and the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District during the 28th Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day.
