- ➤ The City of Reno opened two outdoor fitness courts at Brodhead Park and Damonte Ranch Park in partnership with Renown Health and the National Fitness Campaign to provide free exercise for all ages. A free Community Fitness Day will be held at Damonte Ranch Park on Saturday, September 27, starting at 9 a.m.—featuring family-friendly activities, a fitness challenge between police and fire departments and free paletas while supplies last. 2NEWS
- ➤ Jimmy Kimmel Live returned on Tuesday night at 11:35 p.m. on KOLO News 8 in Reno—after the show had been pulled over remarks that FCC chairman Brendan Carr said were a very serious issue for Disney following comments made after Charlie Kirk’s death. Reno Gazette Journal

- ➤ A community tip led Washoe County Regional Animal Services to locate suspect Miguel Olier and his dog Prince—a black, long-haired Chihuahua/Spaniel mix missing his right hind leg—in Sparks after an animal cruelty incident on the 800 block of Nichols Boulevard; Prince is safe in custody pending further court proceedings. - ➤ A state report showed that Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 5.3 percent. 2NEWS
- ➤ The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported that Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.3% in August—a drop of 0.1% from July. In Reno the rate stood at 4.2% while Carson City was 4% and Las Vegas was 5.6%, with Mineral County reaching 9.7% and Pershing County at 3.4%. 2NEWS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ State and city officials approved three new charter schools to open next year which will serve a combined 316 students at first and scale to 976 over six years. The schools include Northern Nevada Wildflower Montessori in Reno/Sparks, Somerset Academy of Carson City, and Kesher Academy in Henderson — each set to begin with 29, 152, and 125 students respectively. - ➤ Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar said the state will not comply with DOJ's request for all voter records—citing transparency concerns. 2NEWS
- ➤ The City of Reno is asking residents for feedback on changes to its live entertainment rules—especially the ones for events after 11 p.m.—with virtual meetings set for Sept. 29 at 9 a.m., Sept. 30 at 12 p.m., and Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. Residents may also send comments online to help create a clearer and fair enforcement process. - ➤ Work on the first phase of improvements is underway at the Nevada State Fairgrounds as a $5.5 million COVID relief grant helps upgrade old water, sewer and bathroom systems at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center—officials say construction may cause traffic delays but will shift away from events and be done by next September. 2NEWS
- ➤ Reno City Council will discuss a new ordinance that allows accessory dwelling units on plots with a minimum of 5,000 square feet — the measure aims to expand housing opportunities. 2NEWS
