- ➤ Expecting families in Reno are invited to a free baby shower on Wednesday at the Stacie Mathewson Community Wellness Center — hosted by Northern Nevada HOPES and United Healthcare Health Plan with a focus on maternal and pediatric health. Attendees will have access to health booths, games, prizes and giveaways, with the first 50 receiving diapers, the first 20 women receiving Mama Care Kits and a chance to win a stroller and car seat combo. 2NEWS
- ➤ Andelin Family Farm will launch its 16th Fall Harvest Festival on September 24—featuring a pumpkin patch, corn maze, zombie paintball, and an expanded Corn Creepers Haunted Attraction off Pyramid Highway in Sparks. - ➤ The Dragon Lights Festival will begin this Friday at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno and run every night from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. through Thanksgiving weekend until November 30 — the festival will feature 40 new lantern sculptures and a theme called Odyssey of Wave and Woods. 2NEWS

- ➤ Governor Joe Lombardo said Nevada remains set up for a lithium boom at his second annual Nevada Lithium Summit on Friday—he noted that the state's full lithium cycle gives it a strong edge despite falling prices. - ➤ Realtors report that average prices for single-family homes in northern Nevada—covering Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Washoe—are dropping slightly as interest rates fall from 6.7% to 6.2%, easing monthly payments. - ➤ Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announces funding opportunities for law enforcement agencies, professional offices, courts and non-profit organizations through the STOP and SASP grants—applications must be submitted by October 17th at 5 p.m. PST. 2NEWS
- ➤ A federal court issued a temporary restraining order on Thursday that blocked a suit by Attorney General Ford and 21 other state officials from stopping the federal government from accessing SNAP data in states while Nevada was exempt because it had already provided its data—over 505,000 Nevadans received SNAP benefits in 2024 and the administration said it will use the data to investigate alleged fraud. - ➤ City of Reno is asking for public input on live entertainment rules through virtual meetings and an online survey—city staff will use the feedback at a future City Council meeting. Three meetings will be held on September 29 at 9 a.m., September 30 at 12 p.m., and October 2 at 6 p.m. 2NEWS
- ➤ Today, crews began renovations at the Nevada State Fairgrounds in Carson City to replace old water, fire water and sewer systems — the work will fix drainage and support new restroom and event spaces at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center in Reno.
