- ➤ Two Reno sisters, Susanne and Clarisse Robert, received $3,500 from local businesses—United Nissan Reno, Dollar Loan Center, and Carson Mattress Outlet—which helped fund food, insulation, and a solar generator to rebuild after their home burned in Red Rock while they lived in a cabin lacking basic services. - ➤ Reno Elks Lodge #597 will launch its second annual Socktober donation drive on October 1 to collect new socks—along with underwear and bras—to support veterans, schoolchildren and local groups such as the Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra and Project 150. Fifty-five labeled collection barrels will be placed at various locations while the lodge at 597 Kumle Lane serves as the main donation site. 2NEWS
- ➤ Hope to Dream partnered with Serta Simmons Beauty Rest to donate 100 bed sets to The Salvation Army for children in Northern Nevada; the beds—comprising twin mattresses, bed frames and bedding sets—will be given to enrolled families on September 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. 2NEWS

- ➤ The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved NV Energy's NET metering program that will change solar bills next month—customers will see updated billing details when the new process takes effect. 2NEWS
- ➤ NV Energy will change its net metering program on October 1 by reading solar energy every 15 minutes instead of once a month—this move may add about eight dollars to bills and impact new solar customers, while a new time-of-use rate plan will raise rates during peak hours in April. 2NEWS
- ➤ Reno City Councilman Devon Reese announced his run for mayor Tuesday morning and said his record on affordable housing and public safety will guide his campaign—he will face former Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall, Vice Mayor Kathleen Taylor, and businessman Eddie Lorton in a competitive race. - ➤ Today, Nevada is urging eligible voters and high school seniors to register for the ballot box—part of National Voter Registration Day—to help prepare for over 100,000 upcoming state and local elections. 2NEWS
- ➤ The East Fork Fire Protection District added a 2,000-gallon water tender to boost fire response in rural Douglas County —where hydrants are scarce—. A push-in ceremony is scheduled for September 26 at 10:30 a.m. at its Gardnerville station. 2NEWS
- ➤ The City of Reno launched a defensible space pilot program with GreenVibe World on Sep 16 in the Tom Cooke Trail area to lower wildfire risks and prevent insurance non-renewals for properties near open space. The youth-led effort combines community service with wildfire prevention measures and will be monitored for its impact. 2NEWS
