ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Plumas Street and S. McCarran Boulevard just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 8 and is in critical condition — police are investigating the crash while the intersection remained closed until about 10:45 p.m. KRNV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A Reno court rejected Rupert Murdoch’s plan to change a family trust, paving the way for a settlement that gave Lachlan Murdoch control of the media empire — his siblings sold major stakes that reportedly netted about $1.1 billion each. The ruling ended a long-running dispute over the trust and confirmed Lachlan’s victory. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is spending $6 million on off-season improvements—adding a Wildslide Tahoe Tubing Center with 20 snow tubing lanes, a new lodge, and expanded snowmaking systems for better performance. The resort plans to open skiing on November 8—while the tubing center will launch over Thanksgiving. 2NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Fine is leading a revival project at the old Harrah's Casino where five restaurants, three bars and two nightclubs will open downtown; The Mint, a temporary venue, will open in 30 days—permanent locations will begin opening in early 2026. KRNV

- ➤ Secret Witness is offering a $5,000 reward for tips that lead to the arrest of a suspect tied to a homicide at the Burning Man Festival, where Pershing County Sheriff’s Office deputies found 37-year-old Vadim Kruglov from Tacoma lying in a pool of blood at a campsite on Aug. 30 — investigators say the festival’s transient nature makes tracking the suspect difficult. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Whooping cough cases in Washoe County have tripled from 5 last year to 18 so far this year — mirroring a national surge with 35,000 cases reported by the CDC due to lower vaccination rates. Infants are most at risk and public health officials urge anyone with symptoms to seek care early to help reduce severe complications. KRNV

- ➤ Winners were announced for this year's Great Reno Balloon Race on September 9 as Justin Wilkinson, piloting the Cosmic Crisp Apple balloon, took first place and his father, Steve Wilkinson, came in second—he also earned pilot of the day while winners in other categories were revealed. The race will feature nearly 100 hot air balloons with events like a Super Glow Show starting at 5 a.m. and Mass Ascension at 7 a.m., and it is expected to draw over 150,000 people. 2NEWS
