GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gun sales have halted in Reno since a cyberattack on August 24 crippled the state background check system that dealers use for concealed carry permits. • Today at Spanish Springs Library, the Citizen Advisory Board met with community members and experts from the Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue — led by Darrell Billings — to discuss wildfire preparedness by packing emergency kits, planning safe evacuation spots, and taking steps like clearing brush and trimming trees to defend homes.  2NEWS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pharmacies in Nevada such as CVS and Walgreens are not scheduling COVID vaccine appointments because state rules stop them from giving shots until a federal panel meets. Updated shots from Pfizer and Moderna are expected in late September—local centers can only offer limited last season’s vaccines until then—so Nevadans may face delays.  Reno Gazette Journal
