BUSINESS NEWS

  • NV Energy restored power for nearly all 2,200 customers in zip code 89503 after an outage that began just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and was nearly complete by 10:30 a.m. Nearly 300 customers in zip code 89509 remain without power due to an underground equipment failure.  2NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • Pershing County Sheriff’s Office arrested Alessandro Boshant—a 34-year-old from Southern California—after a woman reported a sexual assault at the 2025 Burning Man Festival on September 1, charging him with four counts of sexual assault and burglary while setting bail at $640,000.  KRNV
  • Pershing County deputies released a description of a homicide victim from Burning Man on August 30—he is a white man between 35 and 40 years old, about 6 feet tall with short brown hair and facial hair who was found dead in a pool of blood near the start of the burn on Ishiguro street ring.  2NEWS
  • Pershing County deputies released a description of the suspect for Saturday’s homicide at Burning Man—he is a white man aged 35 to 40, about 6 feet tall with short brown hair and facial hair after a participant spotted the victim in a pool of blood in Black Rock City.  2NEWS
  • Kenneth Ching— a deputy district attorney— was arrested last weekend in Reno on charges of open and gross lewdness and placed on administrative leave as the case is referred to Carson City for prosecution.  2NEWS

CULTURE NEWS

  • During Burning Man 2025, 26 art cars—ranging from small models to jumbo jet-sized creations—with live DJs and loud music played on the playa. The display captivated visitors with a mix of bold visuals and energetic sound.  Reno Gazette Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is hosting a free workshop in Fallon on Sept. 19 (at 111 Sheckler Road) where farmers and gardeners will learn how to build hoop houses that protect crops during Nevada's short growing season. The one-day event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes an afternoon tour of a local hoop house operation.  2NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Climate Central's analysis shows that fall temperatures have risen 3 degrees nationwide and almost 8 degrees in Reno since 1970, with warming faster in the Mountain West and Southwest— a change that may lead to higher cooling costs and health risks. Experts note that as greenhouse gases continue to rise, fall may increasingly resemble an extended summer.  KUNR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Nevada health officials reported an increase in whooping cough with 18 confirmed cases this year compared to five last year and urge residents to get the Tdap vaccine to prevent further spread.  2NEWS
  • CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens are limiting COVID vaccines in Nevada due to state laws and low supply. Dr. Chad Kingsley from Northern Nevada Public Health said reduced staffing and funding cuts have cut local outreach efforts and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will meet on September 18th to update recommendations — local seniors remain concerned.  2NEWS
