ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A portion of Pyramid Highway was closed for 7-8 hours yesterday while crews cleared a two-car crash that hit a power pole—dropping power lines across the roadway with no injuries reported.  2NEWS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Playfield Sports and Games has reopened in the old Santa Fe hotel with a 40-foot pinball bartop—said to be the only one in the country—and offers food, cocktails and affordable games downtown. The business signed a lease in January, held a soft opening on June 20, and hosted a Blue Carpet event on August 28 to help revitalize the area.  Reno Gazette Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A month ago, a mass shooting outside the Grand Sierra Resort left three dead and three injured when suspect Dakota Hawver, 26, opened fire and was fatally shot by police—authorities said the investigation remains open with new details to be released when it goes to the district attorney.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded near the Rainbow Market in Sun Valley at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 after reports of threats and arrested Richard Burke for drug possession and stolen property from O'Reilly Auto Parts — he is now booked into jail.  KRNV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rachael Gingery fell 20 feet last year — nearly being paralyzed — but has recovered and is now at Burning Man where she is building a ski slope with her theme camp.  Reno Gazette Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State offices remain closed today after a cyberattack disrupted key services like the DMV and Department of Public Safety—officials say appointments will be honored and in-person services may resume later this week. The FBI is investigating the incident while state agencies work on recovery.  2NEWS
  • Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue said progress is ramping up on Station 35 at I-80 and Waltham Way—its water storage tank is complete and crews are installing the roof structure, with the building expected to be covered soon after Labor Day.  2NEWS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Reno’s Nevada Men's Hockey Club is starting its second season in the American Collegiate Hockey Association D3 and will play its first conference game on September 19th at the Reno Ice Rink—students enter free with valid ID and enjoy a Greek themed kickoff. The team plans to build its program further and aims to move up to D2 next season.  2NEWS
