- ➤ Reno officials are considering a change to the zoning code to make it easier for childcare centers to operate—this move could help more families access care in the city. 2NEWS
- ➤ State officials said a ransomware attack that began early Sunday shut down systems and delayed DMV and child support services while Medicaid and payroll continued, and the FBI is assisting with the investigation—state data was taken by criminals. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ Washoe County commissioners voted Tuesday to allow taller buildings and more housing density in the county’s Lake Tahoe basin area including Incline Village and Crystal Bay—these changes still need formal approval from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. Some local residents already worry the new rules may lead to more traffic and longer fire evacuation times. KRNV
- ➤ State officials updated the public Wednesday afternoon on the response to last weekend’s cyberattack— the joint briefing from the Governor’s Technology Office, state agency directors and federal partners detailed service outages at DMV and state police offices and said key services would reopen later this week pending further investigation. 2NEWS
- ➤ Reno is asking for community input on new zoning rules to help childcare providers open more facilities by removing burdensome permits such as the Minor Conditional Use Permit. The city will hold public meetings starting in September and collect online feedback until October 30—virtual sessions are set for October 14 at noon and October 20 at 5 p.m. KRNV
- ➤ Truckee Meadows Water Authority asked residents to cut back on outdoor watering after recent thunderstorms stirred dirt and debris in the Truckee River and forced a shutdown of some water intakes.
