CRIME NEWS

  • Claude King, a local sex trafficker, was found guilty on seven counts including charges of sex trafficking, living on earnings of a prostitute with force, domestic battery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and dissuading a person from testifying—sentencing is set for October 15 with a potential range of 22 to 55 years in prison.  KRNV

  • The Black Rock City entrance gate reopened today after weekend storms, letting Burners from Reno travel to Burning Man—officials said wait times on County Route 34 are expected to reach 6 to 8 hours while the BRC airport will open mid-day if the weather improves.  2NEWS
  • Burning Man festival gates reopened early Monday after inclement weather forced a temporary closure, and Reno attendees boarded Burner Express Bus to travel to Black Rock City while the BRC airport remained closed until mid-day. Wait times from the 8-mile playa entrance were 6 to 8 hours while organizers warned that unstable weather will persist for two more days — prompting caution among festival-goers.  KRNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue is launching a free curbside chipping service for eligible Washoe County residents who are disabled, low-income, or older. The service runs from October 11 to 19 and applications must be submitted by September 30 with strict guidelines—only green waste 8 inches or smaller is accepted.  KRNV
  • State offices paused in-person services Monday after a network security incident disrupted systems, and Nevada residents may notice slow websites and phone lines as officials work to restore operations — 911 remains available for emergencies.  Reno Gazette Journal
