  • Ninth Street will close Tuesday for a ribbon cutting—set to take place between North Virginia Street and University Way in Reno.  2NEWS
  • On Sunday night, community members gathered at North Valleys High School to honor football coach Rick Arazosa, who touched the lives of many students and athletes — family and friends shared memories during the service. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash between a juvenile riding an illegal electric motorcycle and a bicyclist in south Reno occurred Sunday morning and sent the injured bicyclist to the hospital— the juvenile on the motorcycle was cited for riding without proper equipment and a license.  2NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • Sparks Police responded to a truck crashing into a house just after 5 a.m. on Saturday — they are looking for a suspect.  2NEWS
  • Scammers say you purchased an iPhone and instruct you to call back to reverse charges—this voicemail scam is designed to trick victims.  2NEWS
  • On August 23 in Sparks, a late model white Nissan Titan crashed into a home on the 4800 block of Ravello Drive at about 5:11 a.m.—the vehicle fled and no one was hurt—and police are now searching for the driver.  KRNV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Burning Man is underway and many burners are arriving at Reno-Tahoe International Airport to board the Burner Express shuttle bus to Black Rock City—pickup now takes place outside baggage claim with dropoff near the Southwest Airlines check-in. First-time and returning travelers say the revised service makes going to the festival easier as busy travel days are expected on August 29, 30 and September 1.  2NEWS
  • On August 24th, Lake Tahoe Comic Con returned for its third year—drawing crowds of fans to celebrate popular comics and pop culture.  2NEWS

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A local group is offering a rattlesnake safety course for dog owners after close encounters with rattlesnakes on hiking trails raised concerns—course leaders will teach proper ways to avoid snake bites and keep pets safe. The course will provide hands-on tips for better safety on future hikes.  2NEWS
