- ➤ At the Reno City Council meeting, the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority presented its study that projects a 3% rise in tourists for fiscal year 26 and found hotel inventory is growing—despite an expected 1.5% drop in average room revenue. - ➤ Traner Middle School launched its Walking School Bus today — an initiative set up to help students walk safely from Pat Baker Park to school after families raised concerns about the walking zone. - ➤ On August 13th, University of Nevada, Reno launched Pack AI, a student-driven initiative designed to equip students & faculty with skills, resources and tools to integrate AI into academics and research. 2NEWS

- ➤ Reno City Council approved the Reno Housing Authority’s request to abandon an alley in old Southwest for a two-story affordable housing project—targeting 40–45 units for residents earning less than 60% of the area's median income—even though nearby residents raised concerns about parking, density, and traffic. The agency will now move into the design phase with detailed plans due by year end and hopes to break ground in early 2027. KRNV
- ➤ On Wednesday, Reno City Council heard financial analyst Jeremy Aguero explain Nevada's C-Tax, which takes money from liquor tax, car registration fees, and sales tax and gives it to local services—such as police and parks. City Manager Jackie Bryant said the city will study budget details and invite Aguero back later to talk about property and fuel taxes. KRNV
- ➤ The Reno City Council is reviewing an updated C-Tax report to show how funds are used for services like police, fire, and parks. - ➤ The Washoe County Sheriff's Office will use $400k from a Homeland Security Grant to convert a storage room into an ICE interview room and fix the inmate release corridor at the jail—with 10% of the funds required for border security.
