  • Today, the City of Reno and the Downtown Reno Partnership are unveiling a new Rolling Recreation trailer at Locomotion Plaza that will offer free activities like games, art projects, and fitness classes to enliven downtown spaces—activations are set to occur weekly at several sites and will increase from 20 events this year to 40 in 2026.  2NEWS

  • Westbound I-80 near Hirschdale experienced major delays on Monday after a big rig carrying Tesla batteries overturned — no injuries were reported and crews began a careful cleanup that required extra handling of the hazardous cargo.  KRNV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Federal officials reached a settlement with Greystar after alleging that its RealPage software—used in its five Reno apartment complexes—raised rents artificially, and the agreement requires the company to assist federal prosecutors with external monitoring. Greystar admitted no wrongdoing and is handling a separate lawsuit over alleged hidden fees.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • Court documents reveal Sparks parents deliberately starved their 2‑month‑old baby, who died after being taken to St. Mary's Hospital on April 5—police arrested the 22‑year‑old and 23‑year‑old on murder and child neglect charges with their bail hearing set for August 13 while their other children remain with child services.  KRNV

  • Today, Washoe County students start school as officials urge drivers to obey the 15 mph speed limit and yield to school buses, citing past safety concerns. The school district has partnered with Southwest Foodservice Excellence for healthier lunches and has set updated winter bus protocols so that parents will be notified of any changes.  KRNV
  • Washoe County school police warn drivers to slow down as more than 60,000 students head to school today, stressing that illegal U-turns in busy school zones can result in heavy fines.   • Officials in Wadsworth announced a $2.4 million project to replace the aging pedestrian bridge over the Truckee River with a taller+wider structure that will provide a safer crossing for schoolchildren and residents.
