- ➤ John Herbaugh, a 70-year-old Sparks man, was sentenced to 25 years in prison with parole eligibility after 10 years for drug trafficking after officers stopped him on Feb.22 near Reno—where a K9 alerted them to more than a pound of methamphetamine, cash, and other drugs in his truck. KRNV
- ➤ Sparks Police said Thursday that 26-year-old Dakota Hawver died overnight after a shootout with police days after the mass shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort — investigators are still trying to figure out his motive — as the community reels from the tragedy. 2NEWS
- ➤ Court documents allege that Izabella Loving, a five-year-old, was locked in a 5-by-5-foot box—built of 2-by-4s and drywall—and beaten repeatedly before she died on April 3 while her parents were arrested on child abuse charges. Reno Gazette Journal

- ➤ State officials said new FEMA rules cutting UASI funds and requiring 10% of homeland security grants for border security will leave Nevada with about $3.6 million for emergency projects from an estimated $4 million grant.
