ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man died after he jumped head first into the Truckee River near the Sutro Street Bridge late Thursday morning. A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. PDT Wednesday and officials urge residents to drink fluids and stay out of the sun.  2NEWS
  • Fire crews responded at 1:22 p.m. Thursday to a blaze on Beldon Way in Reno that completely destroyed a home, and investigators found an electrical wire at the scene — no one was injured as roads remain closed and the Red Cross assists the displaced homeowner.  2NEWS

  • Dave & Buster’s is hosting a city-wide flag hunt in Reno that runs from July 15 through July 19 and offers a $100 gift card with VIP preview party access ahead of its grand opening at Shayden Summit Reno Mall at 13969 S Virginia Street; clues will be released daily on the company website.  2NEWS

  • The jury has started deliberating in Daniel Serafini's trial for killing Robert Spohr and attempting to kill Wendy Wood in Homewood—and they will reconvene later today at 8:30 a.m.  2NEWS
  • Sparks police located a dark green GMC Sierra pickup with a white cursive decal + identified two people of interest in the June 27 shooting that fatally wounded 19-year-old Felipe Acuna near 440 Greenbrae Drive when an altercation+ sparked multiple gunshots at 11:25 p.m.  Reno Gazette Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • House Party and the City of Reno are hosting a free monthly event at Locomotion Plaza that will feature live music, art installations, food trucks and fire dancing on July 19, August 16, and September 20 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. — a separate after-party for those 21 and older will follow at Dead Ringer.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reno officials said Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation shut down on July 3 amid allegations of financial mismanagement by its executive director, ending park programs like dog waste station upkeep and youth day camps. City staff are reviewing agreements to decide if they will take over these tasks — to ensure minimal disruption — while the board manages the shutdown on a volunteer basis.  Reno Gazette Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Reno's oldest house, built in the late 1860s, was moved on July 10 by two trailers to a new spot near Mayberry Drive and McCarran Blvd. Jacobs Entertainment sold the house for $1 to local buyers who will restore and update it over the coming year—bringing back its original wood siding and improving safety.  KRNV
