- ➤ Kick for a Cause hosted its fifth annual kickball tournament at Shadow Mountain Park to raise money for children with disabilities. The event honored seven kids — one who sang the national anthem and Reno Aces mascot Archie, who made his first kick — while co-organizers Donald Abbott and Stephanie Weiss, who started the tournament after her son was born with cerebral palsy, said the fundraiser helps fill gaps in insurance coverage for special needs. 2NEWS

- ➤ Sparks Fire Department responded early this morning to a townhome fire at Buffalo Way and Greyhaven Lane — firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior flames and later found the body of an elderly man inside as investigators continue to look into the fire’s origin in the living room. KRNV
- ➤ The Sparks Fire Department responded to a building fire near Buffalo Way - Greyhaven Lane around 12:45 a.m. Saturday and brought the fire under control while the cause remains under investigation. 2NEWS
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Sparks Police say a 19-year-old from Reno was fatally shot when a suspect fired several rounds during an altercation at a parking lot near Greenbrae Drive and 5th street on Saturday at 11:25 p.m.—REMSA transported him to a hospital where he later died. 2NEWS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, U.S. Forest Service crews halted progress on two small wildfires near Stampede Reservoir when one fire burned a half-acre and the other a quarter acre (retardant was applied to both). They said crews were wrapping up suppression work and investigating the cause. 2NEWS

- ➤ An outside consultant reported that Washoe County must reset the relationships between the county manager’s office and commissioners to fix ongoing ineffectiveness. County Manager Eric Brown retired on June 10th—after learning of the recommendations—and commissioners will begin implementing changes this year to improve transparency. Reno Gazette Journal

- ➤ The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada hosted an open house and blood drive on June 28th in Reno and exceeded its donation goals, the organization said. 2NEWS
