BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Earlier this week, Redwood Materials launched Redwood Energy, a venture that repurposes used EV batteries to power a Texas data center microgrid rated at 12 megawatts—63 megawatt hours. The company, which runs a recycling facility at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, said the system is the world’s largest second-life battery deployment and may pave the way for more low-cost energy projects as AI demand grows. - ➤ On June 26, a fight at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center left William Roemer critically injured when gang member Ricky Duboc stabbed him during a clash between outlaw motorcycle gangs — Duboc was arrested and faces charges including attempted murder. KRNV

- ➤ The federal government updated its estimate of oil and gas on Nevada public lands, ranking the state third with 1.4 billion barrels of oil and 1.2 billion cubic feet of gas. Lease sales have drawn little bidding and experts say extraction is unlikely to be profitable soon (technology improvements have raised estimates despite long-standing low industry interest). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washoe County law bans setting off fireworks in private yards—only approved public displays are allowed, such as those held at the Grand Sierra Resort or at designated areas in Pyramid Lake. Anyone caught with fireworks risks fines up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail, and may be held responsible for fire suppression and hazardous waste disposal costs. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ State lawmakers approved 191 bills that will take effect July 1, including one that protects breastfeeding in public and provides online support and another that strengthens confidentiality for reproductive health care workers. Additional measures will aid incarcerated students with FAFSA applications and require schools to report use-of-force incidents — efforts aimed at enhancing public services across the state.
