ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two survivors of a boat that capsized in Lake Tahoe on Saturday were saved because they wore life jackets + emergency crews rescued them amid a sudden storm that overturned a 10-passenger vessel and drowned eight people.   KRNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lithium Americas is ensuring that construction at the Thacker Pass mine continues amid a water usage investigation—state officials issued a cease and desist order for Lithium Nevada Corporation and have told the company to stop pumping water until the matter is resolved.  2NEWS
  • Officials at RTC will show the new design for the Sierra Street Bridge at a public meeting in Reno. Local residents will learn details about the project and its possible impact on local traffic.  2NEWS
  • Today, a new traffic signal will be activated at McCarran Boulevard and Keystone Avenue in northwest Reno. The Nevada Department of Transportation and the Regional Transportation Commission installed the signal after intermittent closures since February, and drivers should expect brief delays as traffic patterns change—watch for updated crosswalks and lane markings.  2NEWS
  • Heidi Anderson, the director of the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, was fired on June 24 over allegations of financial mismanagement and the board is reviewing the organization’s financial systems with legal and financial experts.   • NDOT held a public meeting on Wednesday about its I-80 widening project east of Sparks. The plan will add two lanes and safety features along the highway between Vista Boulevard and U.S.A.   • The Sierra Street Bridge replacement design is 60 percent complete and a public meeting is held today at the McKinley Arts and Culture Center from 4 to 7 p.m. The meeting will let residents preview the design—spanning the Truckee River between West First Street and Island Avenue.  2NEWS

  • Life Is Worth It, a Reno nonprofit focused on youth mental wellness, is offering free L.I.V.E. Model Workshops to organizations serving youth aged 10 to 24 in Northern Nevada. The interactive program (covering topics such as anxiety, depression, and coping strategies) will be held from July until June 2026 (supported by Renown Health, the Reno Aces Foundation, the Hot August Nights Foundation, and Ideal Medical) and has limited space so groups should email [email protected] for details.  2NEWS
