  • Residents are invited to volunteer at the Reno Municipal Rose Garden in Idlewild Park on June 28, from 9 a.m. to noon—led by city horticulturist Ryan Sharrer to deadhead faded blooms and promote new growth.   • An SUV collided with a UPS truck on W. 7th St. Wednesday afternoon in Reno, marking the ninth crash on this hazardous road since 2019 — RTC plans to study the area after city officials installed LED arrows and other safety measures — and police urge drivers to slow down.  KRNV

CRIME NEWS

  • Reno Police are searching for a missing 12-year-old boy last seen leaving his home near Quartette Drive and Galero Drive. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 1 PM today to midnight Friday night while a Wind Advisory runs from 11 AM to 11 PM Friday in Reno and surrounding areas—gusty winds up to 60 mph and low humidity are raising fire risks and may move unsecured items.  2NEWS
  • Authorities are investigating a man's body pulled from the Truckee River early Wednesday morning in Reno. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning today for gusty winds and low humidity along with a Lake Wind Advisory for local lakes and a Wind Advisory for Friday, prompting residents to secure loose outdoor items.  2NEWS
  • Police reported that a 41-year-old man was found dead in a Reno waterway near the Chalk Bluff construction site on June 18th — investigations showed no foul play and the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office will release his identity after notifying his family.  KRNV
  • Police are investigating an unidentified body pulled from the Truckee River near 4th Street and McCarran Blvd early Wednesday morning at 3:30 a.m. The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch with gusty winds and low humidity expected today afternoon through Friday evening to increase fire risk.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Reno judge ordered that the Nevada Department of Education immediately fund an out-of-state residential program for a child with disabilities—an order that stops further investigation into how the Washoe County School District handled the student's education. The decision, part of a legal battle over a $582,000 placement cost for upcoming school years, aims to secure the student’s right to an appropriate education.  Reno Gazette Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 17, the Nevada Latino Caucus criticized Governor Joe Lombardo for vetoing seven bills that aimed to protect Latino and immigrant communities—measures such as a Dolores Huerta Day proclamation, rent transparency, and school safety. Assemblymembers argued that these bills were critical for promoting justice and dignity for Nevada’s working families.  KUNR
  • State lawmakers passed Assembly Bill 350 that will require cemeteries to get a court order before moving a buried body and to follow strict upkeep rules — a change prompted by a Reno Gazette Journal investigation at Mountain View Cemetery.   • U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen announced over $7.6 million to improve Reno-Tahoe International Airport's infrastructure by expanding overnight aircraft operations and adding 8,850 square yards of ramp space (funding from the Airport Infrastructure Grant program under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) to boost capacity.  KRNV
