COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Girls on the Run Sierras will host three week-long camps for girls ages 8–12 at separate venues in Reno, Carson City and Kings Beach with registration starting at $265 per week. The Reno camp runs July 21st–25th at Reno High School with full-day sessions until 4:00 p.m., the Carson City camp runs August 4th–8th at Eagle Valley Middle School until noon, and the Kings Beach camp runs August 18th–22nd at the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe with afternoon sessions.  2NEWS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 8‐car crash closed part of I‐580 near Glendale Avenue on Tuesday just before 7 a.m.—two people were hospitalized with minor injuries as crews worked to open all lanes.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washoe County commissioners voted unanimously on June 17 to name Kate Thomas the interim county manager for six months starting July 1 after former manager Eric Brown retired. The county is recruiting a permanent manager while Thomas, who has served since 2017, said she is happy in her role despite recent allegations of bullying and harassment—her interim salary will increase 10% to nearly $330,000.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Sen. Rosen’s office learned that local mail may be processed out of state after the USPS removed its news release promising to keep the Reno Vassar facility operational—on June 17, they sent a letter to Acting Postmaster General Doug Tulino and the Board of Governors asking if the facility will be downsized or moved, with a response requested by July 8.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • Sierra Nevada REALTORS’ May report shows that northern Nevada saw single-family home prices rise to a median of $565,000—while condominium and townhome prices fell to $355,000. The data from Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Washoe counties highlights varied market trends that signal stability in some areas and slower sales in others.  KRNV
