COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Reno Pro Soccer & Reno Public Market are partnering this month to host soccer watch parties at the Public Market from June 11 to June 19. The events will feature match screenings, raffles, and local dignitary appearances to build excitement for a future professional stadium and south Reno development.  2NEWS
  • The Nevada Department of Wildlife is hosting two free fishing events at Sparks Marina this month. Adaptive Anglers Free Fishing Day runs Thursday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Kids Free Fishing Day on Saturday, June 13, runs from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.  2NEWS

  • The Eddy, a Truckee River bar, proposed moving to City Plaza as Sierra Street Bridge work starting in 2027 may cut traffic. The plan includes an outdoor bar, food trucks, a pizza spot, pickleball courts, play area+stage and will be evaluated by the redevelopment agency.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • The Artown Little Book is now available for planning the monthlong arts festival that will fill Reno with over 600 events this July. Residents can pick up the free guide at select local spots and plan for events including a July 4 celebration at Mackay Stadium.  2NEWS

  • U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data released June 1 show Nevada workers averaged 34.7 hours per week in April and earned about $33.24 per hour, ranking seventh for work hours and 35th for wages plus highlighting a wage gap with several states.  Reno Gazette Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers at University of Nevada, Reno will use $3.5M in federal funding for hazardous fuel reduction on 300 acres at Little Valley Research Station and Whittell Forest. The work will thin trees and reduce fire spread where forests border communities.  KUNR

  • Officials in Reno, along with partners in Clark County and North Las Vegas, say heat mitigation plans are working to extend cooling center hours and boost public drinking water access though details remain sparse.   • Residents at Evergreen Trailer Park in south Reno faced a move-out deadline on Sunday, yet a few low-income tenants remain as legal aid and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office HOPE Team helped secure a 30-day extension for eligible seniors and disabled individuals.  KRNV
  • Sparks Fire warns that unauthorized drones flying near emergency scenes can force firefighting aircraft to land and delay responses, risking lives. The agency advises drone users to check Temporary Flight Restrictions and follow FAA rules — crucial steps to keep emergencies safe.  2NEWS

  • Nevada’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline rebranded as Nevada 988 last Thursday after a study found fewer than 20 percent knew about the service.
