  • Friends of Washoe County Library hold a nine-day book sale at Reno Town Mall from Saturday, May 30 to Sunday, June 7, with early access on Friday, May 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. Volunteers will offer discounted books, CDs, and DVDs & highlight volunteer picks.  2NEWS
  • The Nevada Women’s Fund held its annual Salute to Women of Achievement Luncheon on Thursday, honoring 75 local leaders from northern and rural areas and inducting Felicia O’Carroll into its Hall of Fame. ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Nevada Department of Employment reported that in April the unemployment rate stayed at 5.3% as the labor force fell by 3,475, while Reno’s job numbers remained static since March and increased by 1.8% from last April. Nonfarm employment rose 1.9% statewide and Las Vegas added 300 jobs (DETR report).  KRNV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A small bear roaming near downtown was safely captured after officials set up a culvert trap on Thursday morning near Fourth Street between Edwards Way and Cemetery Road. Wildlife officials processed the animal and it was expected to be released later, while reminding locals to secure outdoor attractants.  2NEWS
  • A small bear was seen downtown at 10 a.m. Today, police and wildlife officials are tracking the animal as it moves westbound toward I-80 — residents should avoid the area.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reno-Tahoe International Airport received a $20 million FAA grant today to fund the New Gen A&B concourses project under the MoreRNO Infrastructure Program & the funding is the largest for a small-hub airport in federal fiscal year 2026.  2NEWS
  • Corinthia Yancey, a candidate for Reno Mayor, was featured in a candidate interview series published yesterday by News 4+Fox 11 to help voters make informed decisions ahead of the June primary ballot. Voters can view the full interviews online.  KRNV
  • Reno officials have introduced a pilot program to fill vacant downtown storefronts by partnering with property owners & offering funding for tenant improvements to attract small businesses. The agency will present research in late summer and start the program in fall.  Reno Gazette Journal
