- ➤ Sierra Nevada FC will host the 'Goals for Hope' charity soccer game on May 18 at 4:00 p.m. at University of Nevada Reno's Mackay Stadium, where the Reno Police Department + Reno Fire Department will play to raise funds for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation and honor a player battling cancer. 2NEWS

- ➤ Police determined a reported threat on the UNR campus was unfounded on May 15 as multiple agencies inspected the Virginia Street and College Way area outside Church Fine Arts—operations have since returned to normal and additional graduation ceremonies are scheduled through the weekend. KRNV
- ➤ Two men were arrested after a nearly three-hour standoff in Silver Springs on May 14 when one man left his house during a routine traffic stop to harass deputies and threaten a patrol car while his children waited outside (the other man was detained for obstructing the investigation). KRNV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Teachers at Stead Elementary and Vaughn Middle must now reapply for their jobs as the district prepares to open new school buildings in 2026—several staff members have already left and the union is asking for written reemployment guarantees to ease the growing concerns. The district says the process will help ensure that the new schools have a team aligned with their updated vision and goals. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ Cheyenne Bastian-Brown, the 2025 American Honey Queen, will visit Reno from May 19 to May 21 to teach students about how honeybees support Nevada agriculture. She will also join the World Bee Day event at Idlewild Park on May 20 — sponsored by the Help Save the Bees Foundation. 2NEWS
