COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Reno Street Food is expanding its summer food truck event to run three days a week by adding Food Truck Wednesdays at Cyan Park and Food Truck Thursdays at North Valleys Regional Park along with the regular Friday event. The Wednesday event runs for nine weeks from June 11 to August 6 and the Thursday event runs for nine weeks from June 12 to August 7 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.—giving Reno locals more options for outdoor dining.  KRNV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car crashed into the Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory in New Washoe City on Monday evening—security video shows the fast car skidded through the gravel parking lot before striking the side porch while the Nevada Highway Patrol said the driver lost control on a turn and was arrested for obstruction.  2NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks said no charges will be filed against the drivers suspected of DUI in the April 26 crash that killed good Samaritan Christine Gschwind-Wright near Mt. Rose Highway—officials expect to finish the investigation in 60 to 90 days.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nevada third-grade teacher Makenzie Caufield — who teaches at Robert Mitchell Elementary School in Sparks — won the Teachers of Tomorrow 2025 National Teacher of the Year award on May 13.  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washoe County commissioners approved a license for a July 4 fireworks show in Incline Village that will light up Lake Tahoe's northern shore on a barge from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event—organized by Red White and Tahoe Blue II—will attract up to 6,000 people, with traffic control starting at 5:00 a.m. and community cleanup planned the following day.  2NEWS
  • The Reno Housing Authority began construction on its largest affordable housing project in partnership with Brinshore Development at the former Hawk View Apartments site on Steelwood Lane, where 199 units will serve individuals and families with AMIs between 20 and 80 percent; the groundbreaking ceremony will be held tomorrow (May 15).  KRNV
  • The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest unveiled the logo for the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, which features Nevada’s spirit from dark skies to neon signs and was designed by Reno’s Stan Can Design. Nevadans are invited to make ornaments for the tree as it prepares to travel to Washington, D.C.—showing local pride in the state.  2NEWS
  • Lawmakers approved a bill that would let landowners permanently retire and sell water rights through 2035 to ease groundwater stress, but due to budget cuts the state has no funds so supporters must secure outside money+the Senate Committee on Natural Resources will review the measure by Friday.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • City of Reno is proposing an 8% increase in sewer rates on October 1 and another on October 1, 2026 to cover rising costs for chemicals, electricity and construction. The proposed change will raise a single-family quarterly sewer bill by $13.99 to $191.23 — residents can submit feedback by June 30 for city council review.  KRNV
