  • Firefighters contained a brush fire in Sun Valley that scorched a quarter acre on May 11 as they worked to halt its spread.  2NEWS
  • Local officials posted a harmful algae bloom watch for Lahontan on May 11 after tests indicated the algae could cause health issues for both people and animals. Officials are monitoring conditions — advising residents to avoid affected waters.  2NEWS

  • Reno native Capt. Dean E. Allen assumed command of NAVFAC Mid Atlantic on May 8 in Virginia + He vows to empower his team to fast-track military construction projects and support the Navy and Marine Corps.  2NEWS
  • Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue released its annual Community Report detailing a 7,472-call increase in 2025 over 2024 due to expanded automatic aid with partners; training hours grew by over 8,000 (with Battalion 40 handling 71% of north calls including Verdi, Sun Valley and Spanish Springs).  2NEWS
  • Nevada Legal Services offers legal aid to low-income residents whose SNAP benefits are ending due to new work requirements — affected individuals must act within 90 days to appeal.
