- ➤ The 25th annual Pinocchio’s Moms on the Run will be held on Mother’s Day, May 11 at Procter R. Hug High School to support women diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancer. Participants will join a warm-up at 7 a.m., the 5K run and walk at 9 a.m., and a Kidlets Race at 10:30 a.m.—packets for registration are available on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pinocchio’s Bar and Grill. 2NEWS

- ➤ The Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue Board chose Richard J. Edwards as the new fire chief after lengthy interviews replaced retired Chief Charles Moore. Edwards said he is eager to work with his team—addressing challenges as he begins his role. 2NEWS
- ➤ The RTC and City of Reno started replacing the nearly 100-year-old Arlington Avenue Bridges over the Truckee River at Wingfield Park on May 5 to improve safety and update the design based on community input. Arlington Avenue was closed with detours for traffic and events were rescheduled—completion is expected in summer. 2NEWS
- ➤ The Nevada DMV is offering walk-in hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. until May 15 to help residents get a REAL ID which they need for air travel after May 7. The service is provided at DMVs in Reno, Carson City, Sahara, Flamingo, Decatur and Henderson (spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis). 2NEWS
- ➤ The BLM is asking for public comment on its proposed herd management plan for the Blue Wing Complex — a nearly 1.2 million-acre area in Pershing County about 65 miles northeast of Reno — as it considers long-term options to manage wild horses and burros, with comments due by June 4. 2NEWS
- ➤ Today at 7:30 p.m., the Reno Arch will light up blue to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty during the 15th annual Turn the Arch Blue ceremony. A reading of the names will be held and a special tribute will be paid to Officer Keith Tadashi Hashimoto—whose family will help with the ceremonial lighting—as families, friends, officers, and the public gather to show support. 2NEWS
- ➤ City Manager Jackie Bryant said Reno has initiated a 90-day staffing hiatus on non-mandated boards to realign operations amid a $26 million budget shortfall for next fiscal year—staff will present a review process on May 7 and explain board operations on June 4. Board members will be contacted directly as the city works to adjust community engagement alongside cost-saving measures. KRNV
