  • The Virginia Justice Township Court delayed trials for three family members charged in connection with a viral TikTok video showing racist remarks during Hot August Nights in Virginia City after a Stay of Proceedings was filed—new trial dates are set for next year with Tiffany Miller, Janice Miller, and Gary Miller scheduled for May 1, one week later, and June 5 respectively.  2NEWS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artown unveiled its 2025 festival art and announced headlining acts for the July event marking its 30th anniversary; the lineup features Pink Martini on July 3, Michael Kaeshammer on July 20, Rhiannon Giddens on July 24, the Steeldrivers on July 26, and Michael Cavanaugh on July 29 — the festival will include a public art installation of 22-foot-tall alebrijes placed downtown for all of July — and special programs for children.  KRNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Travelers passing through airport security are advised to check their portable chargers in checked luggage since the TSA banned items with lithium-ion batteries per FAA guidance, meaning these items must remain in carry-on bags to reduce fire risk. Passengers must have a Real ID or approved alternative ready before May 7 because TSA will enforce new identification requirements—prompting many to seek earlier DMV appointments.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Local leaders are renewing a push to reform Nevada’s property tax system as Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson said the current system is regressive and may force layoffs amid budget shortfalls. Assemblymember Natha Anderson sponsored Assembly Joint Resolution 1 to reset tax rates on home sales—an effort that could boost Reno’s and Sparks’ funds, while critics warn it may raise costs for new buyers.  KRNV
