  • Meruelo Gaming is asking for tax-increment financing to fund its $1 billion GSR arena project amid rising construction costs from tariffs — the project lacks an alternative funding plan. Reno’s redevelopment agency will negotiate the terms with the city council before a vote on May 7 to decide the arena’s future financing.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Tesla hired more than 1,000 workers in Nevada as it ramps up production of its Semi trucks— the Gigafactory in Sparks will begin producing the first units by the end of 2025, with plans to reach an annual capacity of 50,000 trucks.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • Reno police arrested Francisco Campos, 31, for DUI after a two-car crash at the Plumb Lane and Kietzke Lane intersection on April 28th around 8:15 p.m.—two people were taken to the hospital as the investigation remains ongoing.  KRNV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A female black bear was safely tranquilized by NDOW after being seen early Tuesday near the Alexander Apartments and was released near Davis Creek on Wednesday with aversive conditioning—Karelian Bear Dogs and loud noise were used to deter her from returning to residential areas.  2NEWS
  • Today, more than 200 Spanish goats from High Desert Grazing are grazing above Somersett to reduce wildfire risks by clearing about 20 acres of vegetation between Pepperwood Court, Mountain Spirit Trail, and Peavine Valley Road—complementing other fire mitigation efforts. Visitors may watch the progress at the fenced site guarded by dogs if they leash pets and keep quiet.  2NEWS
