- ➤ Sparks Fire Department partners with Nevada Humane Society for a pet food drive from May 1 to May 31. Donation bins at all six stations and online giving are available, but items like used blankets and medications will not be accepted (check restrictions). 2NEWS

- ➤ A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck 11.8 miles southeast of Silver Springs at 8:55 a.m. on Wed, Apr. 29, following a series of tremors earlier in the week. KRNV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North Valleys High School resumed normal operations today after being placed on secured campus status yesterday following a reported phone threat. School police are still investigating while classes continue as scheduled. 2NEWS
- ➤ The News Literate Community Initiative held a panel event Wednesday night in Reno to help residents tell facts from opinions amid social media confusion. The event aimed to boost news literacy in the community. 2NEWS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Contractors have begun wildfire risk reduction work in parts of Tahoe National Forest near Truckee + some roads, trails and lands may be temporarily closed for safety; check local updates before heading out. The projects will run from late spring through fall, weather permitting. 2NEWS
- ➤ The Desert Research Institute released a study Tuesday showing that Nevada’s data centers help boost the economy yet may strain water and electricity supplies, with 28 centers in the Reno-Tahoe area and more planned by 2030 + local leaders reviewing possible new regulations.
