  • Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is asking local volunteers to join its Great Community Clean Up on May 3 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon across over 30 Truckee Meadows sites to remove litter, clear illegal dump sites, and manage invasive weeds; volunteers with trucks are especially needed.  2NEWS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire on Aspen Hollow Drive in south Reno on April 29th destroyed the home and left one person missing, one person injured, and one on scene as multiple fire units responded and officials began investigating the cause.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • A fire broke out early Monday morning on Aspen Hollow Drive in south Reno, destroying a home and leaving one person unaccounted for – two residents escaped while one was hospitalized – as firefighters contained the blaze and began investigating its cause.  2NEWS

  • Tesla said its Semi trucks will start production at its Nevada Gigafactory campus by the end of 2025 and increase output in 2026. Dan Priestley noted the factory is planned to have an annual capacity of 50,000 units—preparing to meet high volume demand.  Reno Gazette Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 10 to 12-year-old female bear was captured on Tuesday in a breezeway at Alexander Apartments on South Virginia St after likely being drawn by unsecured garbage along a creek. NDOW said the bear will be released tomorrow along the mountains in west Reno — officials urge residents to secure attractants.  KRNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reno development services denied a conditional-use permit for a Jiffy Lube at Hunter Lake and Mayberry drives after residents raised traffic and safety concerns + the site is used for Raley’s employee parking, so the developer can appeal the decision with the city council.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • The Sparks City Council voted unanimously to have the city manager and city attorney work together to negotiate a counter offer for a lawsuit—Nancy Baker alleged the city was negligent in repairing a Victorian Avenue sidewalk defect in December and is seeking $200,000. The council’s decision sets the stage for further negotiations as the litigation moves forward.  2NEWS
