  • Shakespeare Animal Fund is holding its 21st anniversary 'Old City Dog' event on Saturday, April 26 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Reno Public Market — the event features live music, a raffle, and free giveaways — to raise funds for emergency veterinary care for local pet owners in honor of a beloved dog.  2NEWS

  • A woman was taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a car struck her near E. 6th Street and North Wells Avenue late Tuesday night—Reno Police are looking for the vehicle.  2NEWS

  • Five parcels at the Reno Kimpton site face auction after Court Street Ventures filed a notice of sale due to a missed payment on an $11.3 million loan by Las Vegas-based CAI Investments, which has one month to resolve its default — otherwise a trustee sale will occur on May 16 at the Washoe County Courthouse steps.  Reno Gazette Journal

  • Carson Gonzales (20) remains held without bail at Washoe County Jail after being charged with his mother's murder and the attempted murder of her friend at a home on Powder Drive on April 19; his public defender (Marcie Ryba) said she will file a competency evaluation request after he missed court hearings on April 22 and 23.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • Today, three porch piracy incidents took place in a northwest Reno neighborhood as thieves took packages from doorsteps, and Reno police said package theft tends to rise in spring and during holidays; they advise residents to pick up deliveries quickly and report any theft with doorbell footage (to help with investigations).  2NEWS
  • Protesters gathered downtown Reno on Wednesday to demand stricter child abuse laws after 5-year-old Izabella Loving died in Cold Springs; organizer Ashley Viney said children suspected of abuse should be removed from their homes until investigations are complete—her call comes as authorities review evidence.  2NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • AccuWeather released its 2025 wildfire forecast and said 7 to 9 million acres may burn and 60,000 to 75,000 fires may start nationwide, with almost 90% caused by humans. In Nevada, the Reno area is expected to have a moderate wildfire season and nearby regions like Tahoe may face high wildfire risk plus parts of Southern Nevada will see more fires in the summer.  Reno Gazette Journal
