ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire in Verdi displaced a resident and their cats April 21, as firefighters worked to manage the blaze and secure the area.  2NEWS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority announced two public calls for local artists to submit proposals for art pieces at the new police and Airport Authority Headquarters, part of the MoreRNO infrastructure project. Artists must apply via CallForEntry.org with submissions due by June 17 + each project has a $20,000 budget.  2NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Revised data from Nevada Department of Employment (DETR) shows the state added 30,200 jobs from January 2025 to January 2026, reaching over 1.6 million positions statewide as gains in construction, health care, business services and education drove the nation’s fastest job growth.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Reno Library will close on Wednesday, May 6 for heating, cooling, and roof repairs (staff will be reassigned to other branches) and is expected to reopen in late summer; residents may access library services online or at other Washoe County locations.  2NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Data from Turbli showed that Reno-Tahoe International Airport ranked No. 9 among North America's most turbulent airports for 2025 due to mountain wave conditions near the Sierra Nevada, placing it behind Harry Reid and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport where terrain & weather effects are similar.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • After busy International Dark Skies Week, experts say rising light pollution is dimming Nevada's night skies and affecting local health and tourism. The Astronomical Society will host Astronomy Day at Fleischmann Planetarium on April 25 (offering community stargazing guidance).  KUNR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NDOT will begin the final phase of repaving on U.S. 50 on April 27 between Spooner Summit and the Nevada/California border at Lake Tahoe. Crews will work Sundays from 8 p.m. to Friday noon and reduce lanes during May and September — easing travel delays.  KRNV
  • Truckee Meadows Fire Rescue will host free Spring Green Waste Collection Days on Saturday, May 2 at Silver Lake Station and Sunday, May 3 in Washoe Valley. Residents can drop off vegetation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to reduce wildfire risks.  KRNV
