ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Robert McCarthy, 40, was found dead after a brush fire on Monday on El Rancho Drive near Paradise Park in Sparks (he was believed to be homeless) and Sparks police are investigating his death. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ On April 18, firefighters knocked down a fire at a Cold Springs home on the 17000 block of E Aspen Circle — an occupant was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and crews used water tenders due to few hydrants — while authorities investigate the cause. KRNV
- ➤ The Reno Fire Department was called to a parking garage on E. 2nd Street today when a car’s engine caught fire, and firefighters used the sprinkler system to contain the blaze with no injuries reported. KRNV

- ➤ Reno yarn retailer Jimmy Beans Wool announced Wednesday that it had been acquired by Local Crafts Group, a division of Blue Point Capital Partners, and founder Laura Zander was named chief brand officer+the change has led to staff layoffs. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ Tesla has recalled 376,241 of its 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles for a power steering defect that may lead to a loss of electronic power assistance — the fix is an over-the-air update already installed in nearly all affected units. Owner notification letters will be mailed March 25 and the recall comes as Tesla makes batteries near Reno at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center — a key production hub. Reno Gazette Journal

- ➤ Nevada lawmakers in the Assembly voted 27-15 to pass the 'Lock the Clock' Act that will put the state on permanent standard time and remove daylight saving time starting in 2026. Supporters of the bill said they believe the annual time change causes health problems and traffic collisions. KRNV
- ➤ The City of Reno extended the public comment deadline for the final concept of Teglia’s Paradise Park Master Plan until April 28, giving residents more time to provide input. The plan, which includes a stormwater retention system (a key community amenity), follows a September 2024 workshop where various design ideas were discussed. 2NEWS
- ➤ Beginning April 22, the Nevada DMV will allow walk-in Real ID transactions at metro offices every Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m.—expanded walk-in services will run until May 15—and help residents meet the May 7 deadline. 2NEWS
