  • Volunteers are invited to help repair bikes for children at FreeWheels 4 Kids this Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Reno Bike Project Production Center, 635 E. 4th St. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome + no signup is required.  2NEWS

  • A magnitude 5.41 earthquake struck about 17 miles southwest of Fallon Monday evening, briefly halting a local 6:30 p.m. newscast according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.  2NEWS

  • International Dark Sky Week runs April 13-20 in Nevada with Fort Churchill State Park near Silver Springs hosting a skywatching event on Saturday, Apr. 18, showcasing constellation bingo and stellar s'mores; nearby spots like Pyramid Lake and Lake Tahoe offer views of Venus + Jupiter and the Lyrid meteor shower.  Reno Gazette Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Free summer camps for students with disabilities will be offered June through August across Nevada, including Reno—these camps help build skills and explore career paths as students prepare for college or work. Registration closes one month before each week-long camp starts.  2NEWS
  • UNR placed Dean Donald Easton-Brooks on leave following a no-confidence vote last month after allegations of bullying and unprofessional conduct. Dr. Jannet Vreeland (with over 30 years of service) will serve as Acting Dean to keep the College of Education and Human Development running smoothly.  KRNV

  • Reno Police are warning drivers to put down their cell phones during Distracted Driving Awareness Month, urging focused driving today.  2NEWS
  • The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is asking travelers to share their parking experiences via an online survey open through May 31st. Participants will enter a drawing to win five free days of parking in the Long-Term Garage — check details on the RNO website.  2NEWS
  • Washoe County, the Bureau of Land Management, the Sheriff's HOPE team, and Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful will clean up a growing encampment along westbound I-80 between mile markers 21 and 20 on Saturday, June 13, aiming to remove hazards and connect campers with services.  KRNV
