- ➤ Makenzie Caufield, a third-grade teacher at Robert Mitchell Elementary, was named Nevada Teacher of the Year by Teachers of Tomorrow. She will advance as a finalist for the National Teacher of the Year competition with voting ending April 18 and the national champion announced during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5-9. KRNV

- ➤ The Reno metro area added 8,124 residents between July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024 (reaching 575,100), which moved its ranking to the 101st largest in the U.S. Las Vegas added 44,586 residents (bringing its total to 2,398,871) and remains the 29th largest metro area. Reno Gazette Journal
- ➤ Residents in Reno can reserve a 30-yard dumpster free for wildfire fuels reduction through a new program launched by the Reno Fire Department in partnership with State Farm and Waste Management of Northern Nevada—applications open today until September 1 or until funding is exhausted—while dumpsters are delivered on Fridays and picked up on Mondays. 2NEWS
- ➤ Nevada Treasurer Zach Conine said tariffs reduced tourism since rising costs have led visitors to cancel trips—he added that uncertainty from tariff changes may result in lower state revenue as lawmakers prepare the next budget at May's economic forum. KUNR
- ➤ Today, the Reno Fire Department unveiled a new heavy rescue vehicle—built to improve responses to urban search and rescue emergencies. It is the first of its kind in northern Nevada—replacing a 39-year-old model and carrying special tools for fires and collapses. KRNV
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Reno City Council approved a Conditional Use Permit for J Resort Festival Grounds that will allow outdoor festivals, concerts and live entertainment for up to 15,000 people. The permit sets standard event hours until 10 p.m. with live entertainment extending until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and two events each year may run until 12:15 a.m.—a significant step in the site’s development. 2NEWS

- ➤ A Carson High freshman, Iris Ibarra Montes, saved her father’s life after he collapsed at home when she used CPR techniques learned two weeks ago in her health science class.
