CRIME NEWS

  • The Reno Police Department asked for help in identifying the two women who allegedly stole nearly $6,000 worth of merchandise from Ulta Beauty at (5110 Mae Anne Ave) on March 28 at 7:30 p.m., and Secret Witness is offering a $500 reward for information leading to their arrest.  KRNV
  • The Reno Police Department is asking for help finding 14-year-old Savannah Rose Detar, who left her home in the Double Diamond neighborhood on the morning of April 7 and is described as 5'5" and 150 pounds with brown hair and eyes, possibly wearing a black jacket while riding her black and white electric bike and carrying a blue backpack.  2NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four international students at UNLV had their visas revoked last week after the university received notification from a federal database. UNR said none of its 889 international students and scholars are affected — the schools are providing support for those impacted.  Reno Gazette Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A study by the Desert Research Institute in Reno found that snow from nearly 50 sites in the Rocky Mountains was contaminated with mercury and other metals—linking the pollution to historical mining activities. Researchers said the levels remain within federal guidelines—though they recommend continued monitoring of legacy Superfund sites.  KUNR
  • The National Wild Horse and Burro Center in Palomino Valley remains unaffected by federal cuts — its adoption program is on hold.  Reno Gazette Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews from the City of Reno and NDOT are fixing a long-damaged fence along McCarran Boulevard across from Meadowood Mall after neighbors complained about its unsafe condition caused by wind damage in January. The fence is being replaced entirely and work will be complete by end of tomorrow—making the area safer for families and pets.  2NEWS
