COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The National Automobile Museum is holding a sweepstakes drawing today at 10:44 a.m. to award a 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring Convertible with less than 27,000 miles and notify the winner by phone or email; the museum invites community members to attend the drawing.  2NEWS
  • The City of Reno started (Tuesday) a fundraiser to rebuild the burned canopy shelter at Sierra Vista Park after an arson attack in November 2024. With a $125,000 pledge secured, local groups back officials who need an equal match to fund a new noncombustible structure for bike programs.  2NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NV Energy research shows customer satisfaction in Northern Nevada dropped since 2021 as residential ratings fell from 94 to 82 and commercial ratings from 92 to 81; rising natural gas prices and proposed billing changes, including a new daily demand rate, are adding to customer concerns.  Reno Gazette Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washoe County School District announced changes to cover two February snow days. The district will cancel the June 3 early release for finals on June 4, 5 and a half day on June 8 while TMCC High uses contingency days on May 29 and June 1.  2NEWS
  • Over the weekend, a child accidentally sparked a fire that destroyed a playground and fire officials in Reno are urging parents to teach kids proper fire safety (even simple tasks like lighting a barbecue can be a teachable moment).  2NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NDOT began I-80 bridge work west of Reno on April 6, affecting drivers with lane shifts, reduced speeds, and overnight closures through spring 2028. Seven aging bridges are being replaced to improve safety for over 47,000 daily vehicles along the corridor from Mae Anne Avenue to Boomtown.  Reno Gazette Journal
  • The Reno Fire Department announced that its K9 retired after five years of service — it supported local emergency operations throughout its tenure.  2NEWS
  • On Apr. 7, Cortez Masto toured the renovated Carville Park Apartments in Reno — calling the affordable housing updates a game changer for local residents.  2NEWS

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment provides no-cost, multidisciplinary autism evaluations for families in Northern Nevada—helping children get timely answers. UNR Med will participate in Giving Day: The Wolf Pack Way on April 9 to support expanded research and services.  2NEWS

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Reno Public Market is hosting a Date Night event from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 12 where singles can meet naturally—enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drink specials while a host guides introductions. Participants who connect will have a chance to win a free date at select local venues.  2NEWS

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Sen. Cortez Masto toured the Carville Park Apartments renovation, an $80 million project updating a section eight complex north of I-80 in Reno that began in late 2024. The project will finish by the end of June to add private units for seniors, backed by state bank+local unions.  KRNV
