ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A skier died from a head injury on April 5 at about 3:45 p.m. after falling on terrain reached by the KT-22 chairlift at Palisades Tahoe—this marks the third death at a Tahoe resort in two weeks.  KRNV

CRIME NEWS

  • Lyon County authorities arrested four suspects—including Jerady Smith, Joseph Davis, Christian Cox and Lawrence Grimes—for storage unit burglaries across Smith Valley, Mason Valley and Yerington in March; detectives are working to recover stolen property and advance the investigation.  KRNV
  • Reno police arrested 22-year-old Hailey Bush-Wehde in connection with a shooting outside a downtown venue on March 30 at 2:30 a.m.—officers responded when the adult victim self-transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later recovered the firearm used, with Bush-Wehde now facing charges of battery with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm without a permit and discharging a firearm in public.  KRNV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local restaurant owner Fortino Rojas and bakery owner Alana Saporiti say they still face high egg prices that strain their budgets even though the USDA reports that average costs are falling. Rojas noted that his cafe now pays up to $180 per case and Saporiti sees prices rise at stores—adding to a local average of $6.07 per dozen, which is 68% higher than last year.  KUNR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Outdoor learning programs in Nevada have grown thanks to state funds that supported hands-on classes at Churchill County High School in Fallon using oak barrels for planting. The $500,000 from the Outdoor Education and Recreation Grant Program helped 45 projects statewide and Speaker Steve Yeager expects funding to double to $1 million in the next two years — giving more students a chance to learn outside.  KUNR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since April 7th at 7:00 p.m., lane shifts have affected southbound U.S. 395 in North Valleys as NDOT creates a football shape in the roadway for construction work—drivers must maintain a 55 mph speed limit through early May.  2NEWS
  • Assemblymember Heather Goulding proposed a bill that would let bicyclists yield at stop signs and red lights in Reno if no vehicles are present— the bill does not include electric bikes and e-scooters and comes after a report that over a quarter of bike accidents here occur at intersections.  KUNR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The University Police Department — Northern Command has partnered with the Nevada Donor Network to host three Dogs, Donuts and Donate Life flag raising and donor registration drive events at local college campuses. The first event is today at 8:30 a.m. at the University of Nevada, Reno campus, while events at Western Nevada College in Carson City and Truckee Meadows Community College are set for April 22 and April 29 respectively.  2NEWS
